Chowan University is affordable! Over 95% of freshmen receive financial assistance. Programs such as the Chowan Merit Scholarship and Grant Program, Leadership Scholars Program, Chowan Incentive Grants, and Regional Grants awarded to Students in the selected Northeastern North Carolina and Southwestern Virginia Counties. Chowan University has teachers that teach their classes, know your name, and care about your success. The student to faculty ratio is 15:1 and the average freshmen class size is 20.

Q: Where is Chowan University located?
A: Chowan University is located in Northeastern North Carolina in Murfreesboro. The 300+ acre campus is just 30 minutes off I-95 at the Roanoke Rapids exit. You can drive to Virginia Beach in about an hour and the Outer Banks of North Carolina are 2 hours from campus.

The town of Murfreesboro is a small community that rallies abound the campus. Chowan has the best of both worlds: a small, safe community yet the major cities of Norfolk and Virginia Beach are only a short drive away. You can also be at the beach in about an hour!

Q: How many students attend Chowan University?
A: Chowan University is one of the fastest growing universities in North Carolina. For the fall 2007, approximately 1000 students will attend Chowan University from over 20 states and 10 countries. They compete in 11 NCAA Division II athletic teams and are studying in over 63 academic programs.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: While the "price" may be the same for every student regardless of state residency, the actual "cost" varies from student to student. To explain, merit scholarships, athletic scholarships, talent scholarships, and aid determined by the FAFSA can make the cost per student vary greatly.

For example, a recent study indicated that the average student paid $7,000 out-of-pocket (cost) to attend Chowan University. Compare this to the actual "price" which is approximately $15,950 per year for tuition and $6,890 for room, board, and fees. Over 98% of students receive financial assistance!

Q: How do I apply for scholarships?
