“The Department of Psychology at Chowan is an enriching environment which cultivates minds and teaches the fundamentals of human behavior. The professors are dedicated to their students an in return we gain priceless knowledge.”
- Uhurua Gillespie, current Psychology major

If you are interested in why people think, feel and act as they do, then Chowan University's Department of Psychology has you in mind!

The Psychology Department at Chowan University offers three distinct study tracks to focus our students’ skills into their fields

All Psychology students will:

  • Understand how thinking affects behavior
  • Investigate the causes of abnormal behavior
  • Learn the importance of cultural diversity in the context of counseling
  • Develop a personal sense of physical, mental and spiritual healthiness
  • Build skills in research methods and statistical analysis

As a student in the Department of Psychology, you will benefit from:

  • Peer Mentoring – Upper class students are paired with first-year students, like you, to assist in your transition to college life.
  • Peer Counseling – You are trained to provide counseling to other students.

By the time you leave Chowan University, students will know how
to make solid, informed judgments that might significantly change society one person at a time!
