The CHOWAN UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION FACULTY ADVISOR OF THE YEAR AWARD is given each year to honor excellence in academic advising. Selection is based on availability to advisees, caring attitude toward advisees, monitoring of student progress toward academic goals, and knowledge of the university’s regulations, policies, and procedures.

The following 5 awards presented by Student Affairs are to recognize EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP at Chowan University.
The JOSEPH LEE PARKER SCHOLARSHIP, an endowed scholarship given by Mr. and Mrs. Lee Parker, Raleigh, North Carolina, is awarded to a rising junior or senior Health and Physical Education major. The recipient must be nominated by the faculty/staff of the department. He or she must be a good role model, demonstrate scholarly pursuits, and show evidence of leadership. The MOST OUTSTANDING ATHLETE AWARDS are made possible by the late Mrs. Dorothy H. Brown of Murfreesboro, a Chowan alumna and a devoted friend of the University.
The R. CLAYTON LEWIS OUTSTANDING RESIDENT ASSISTANT OF THE YEAR AWARD is presented to the Resident Assistant who has best fulfilled his or her responsibilities of the position. The recipient is evaluated on his her performance and achievements in leadership, job effectiveness, community service, extra-curricular activities and academic excellence. This year’s recipient is:

The CHERYL JOY HOBDAY MCELHENEY BUSINESS AWARD is an annual award given to the outstanding graduating senior in the School of Business. The recipient has achieved academically, been active in extracurricular activities, and is selected by the business faculty as a worthy recipient of this recognition. The award is given in memory of Cheryl Joy Hobday McElheney, a distinguished alumna and generous supporter of the university. This year the award is presented to: Shanais Richards
The DRS. VAUGHN and MILES OUTSTANDING BUSINESS STUDENT AWARD is an annual award to recognize one or two top students in the School of Business who will graduate within the next two years, have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or greater, and made significant contributions in service and citizenship. This award was created by Dr. Miles, Dean of the School of Business, and her husband, Dr. Vaughn. The recipients of this year's award are:

The OUTSTANDING STUDENT IN ECONOMICS AWARD is presented annually to a student who has completed a minimum of two economics courses at Chowan with the highest average and has interest in the field of economics. The recipient of this year’s award is: Alison Kolezynski
An engraved plaque is presented by the Eastern North Carolina Press Association to the OUTSTANDING GRADUATE IN GRAPHIC COMMUNICATION. Selection is made on the basis of academic achievement, motivation, interest and potential for further growth in the profession. This year’s recipient is: Valdez Gregory Artis
The MARY E. WOOD SCIENCE AWARD is given by the faculty of the Department of Biology and Physical Sciences in memory of Professor Emeritus Mary E. Wood. This award is presented to an Outstanding Graduate whose major course of study has been science. The recipient this year is: Candace Matthews
The RAYMOND MEMORIAL SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP, an endowed scholarship, is awarded to a returning student or students enrolled in one of the science curricula that are selected by the faculty of the Department of Biology and Physical Sciences as deserving. This scholarship is provided in memory of Mr. John W. Raymond, Sr. and his son, Major John W. Raymond, Jr., who was an Army dentist and Summa Cum Laude Graduate of Chowan in 1970. The ALPHA MU GAMMA FOREIGN LANGUAGE AWARD is presented to recognize high achievement in the field of foreign languages and to stimulate a desire for linguistic attainment. This year’s recipient is: Stephanie Peede

The award for OUTSTANDING ENGLISH MAJOR is given by the Department of Language and Literature to an outstanding graduating English major who is judged by the English faculty to be the very best. This year’s recipient is: Alegrea Mona Robinson
The EXCELLENCE IN THEATRE AWARD is presented by Theatre@Chowan to an upperclassman who has demonstrated exceptional leadership onstage or behind-the-scenes in Theatre@Chowan productions. The recipient is chosen by the director of the drama program. This year’s recipient is: Michale A. Siverio
The OUTSTANDING GRADUATE IN VISUAL ART is selected by faculty of the Department of Visual Art. This year’s Outstanding Graduate in Visual Art is: Jennifer Baugham
The SENIOR MATHEMATICS AWARD is made possible through the generosity of Mr. Acheson Harden, a former member of the Mathematics Faculty. The award is presented to the graduating senior with a major in mathematics who has the highest overall GPA. This year’s recipient is: Carlos Bandak
The MARY C. PEARCE MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP is an endowed scholarship awarded to an outstanding returning freshman music major. The scholarship was established by the late Mr. W. S. Penny, an alumnus, former trustee, and long time friend of the University. The award this year is presented to: Courtney Baggett
The JAMES MONROE CHAMBLEE MUSIC AWARD is given annually to a music student who has shown outstanding achievement in music scholarship or musical performance and who has made a significant contribution to the Music Department, the University, and the community through such scholarship or performance. This year’s recipient is: Alex Welch
The CHARLES L. PAUL HISTORY AWARD is presented annually to a candidate for graduation who is majoring in history and is adjudged by the history faculty to have demonstrated outstanding qualities of scholarship and leadership exemplified by a 3.5 GPA or higher in all history courses and an exceptional record of service to the college community and history program. The OUTSTANDING HISTORY STUDENT AWARD is given annually to the student with a consistently superior record of academic achievement in history. The recipient is judged by the history faculty to be the one student who sets the best example to others striving for excellence in the study of history. The ALPHA LAMBDA DETLA MARIA LEONARD SENIOR BOOK AWARD is offered by the National Council of Alpha Lambda Delta, which is a national honor society for first year students, for awarding to the graduating member of the university’s chapter with the highest grade point average in his or her class. Forty students gave presentations during the Chowan University Undergraduate Research Conference, which was held yesterday. The names of the participants are listed in the program. The CHOWAN UNIVERSITY UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH CONFERENCE AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE honor students for outstanding presentations in each one of the conference's four divisions. By the quality of their participation, these students exemplify what is best in the intellectual and artistic life of Chowan University. The award is chosen by the organizers of the Chowan Academic Forum, along with input from faculty and community members. As I announce the winners, will the faculty sponsor please stand.
The ORDER OF THE SILVER FEATHER is an honorary service fraternity, the purpose of which is to give recognition to those students who have been especially outstanding in their service to the campus community and whose loyalty to Chowan University has been extremely noteworthy. Not more than six students are selected each year, these having been nominated by members of the faculty and staff.
